If there is one garment where ready-made really lets women down, it is trousers. Waist-to-hip ratios vary enormously. So does the rise people find comfortable, the proportion through the thigh and seat, and leg length. So you end up with trousers that fit the waist and hang loose in the seat, or fit the seat and gape at the back of the waist, or are the right length only if you wear exactly one pair of shoes. A pair cut here is drafted from your actual measurements across all of those dimensions at the same time, which is the only way the problem gets solved.
Where it goes wrong, and how we fix it
The waist-to-hip ratio is the main culprit. A woman with a 26-inch waist and 38-inch hips will never find a trouser sized to one of those numbers that is also right for the other. Cutting to measure solves it directly, by drafting to both figures at once and shaping the side and back seams to carry the difference without pinching one end or ballooning at the other.
The rise is the next one, meaning the distance from the waistband down to the crotch seam. A low rise on a woman who prefers to sit higher is uncomfortable and looks awkward all day. A high rise on somebody who wants lower is no better. We set the rise to what you actually like wearing, and it is worth telling us plainly rather than letting us guess.
