Denim is the one category where people accept a bad fit because they assume that is simply how jeans come. It is not. A pair of jeans hemmed to your leg, in a fit that suits your build, looks entirely different from the same pair worn straight off the shelf.
Understanding the fits
Straight — the classic. Consistent width from knee to hem, forgiving, works on almost every build.
Slim — narrows gently below the knee without gripping the calf. The most versatile modern fit and the one that reads smartest with a shirt.
Tapered — roomier through the seat and thigh, narrowing sharply below the knee. The right answer for athletic or heavier builds who find slim fits tight at the top and loose at the bottom.
Relaxed — generous throughout. Comfortable, and currently back in fashion, but needs the right proportion up top to avoid looking shapeless.
Choosing a wash
Dark rinse and raw indigo are the smartest and the most versatile — they can be worn with a collared shirt without looking like weekend wear, which matters in offices that have relaxed but not abandoned the dress code. Mid-wash is the everyday default. Distressed and heavily faded washes are firmly casual.
In Chennai, darker washes have a practical advantage beyond looks: they hide dust far better between washes, and denim is best washed rarely.
Hemming — including the original hem
Almost no pair of jeans comes at the right length for an Indian build. We hem denim in-house, matching the original thread weight and stitch.
Where the original hem is a feature — the distinctive stitching and fading at the cuff — we can remove the length from above and reattach the original hem, so the jeans look untouched. Most alteration counters will not do this. It takes longer and it is worth it on a good pair.
