Van Heusen has become the default formal shirt for a generation of Indian professionals, and for good reason: the fabrics are engineered for our climate and our working day, the fits are consistent, and the finish holds up to daily wear and weekly laundering. We have carried the label for years and stock it across the full size and fit range, on the ready-made floor at Adyar.
What we stock
Our Van Heusen selection covers the working wardrobe end to end — formal shirts in whites, blues, fine stripes and subtle checks; formal trousers in the core neutrals; and the smart-casual pieces that have become acceptable in most Chennai offices. We stock the wrinkle-resistant and easy-care lines heavily, because in this climate they are what customers actually come back for.
Sizes run across the full range in the core colours rather than only in the middle sizes, which is the usual failure of a thin multi-brand rail. If you are at either end of the size range, you will generally find your size here — and if we do not have it on the floor, we will source it.
Fit notes — what to expect
Van Heusen shirts generally run true to size with a slightly generous cut through the body compared to the slimmer European labels. The slim fit is genuinely slim without being restrictive; the classic fit gives real room through the chest and is the sensible choice if you spend the day at a desk in the heat.
Collars sit well and hold their shape, which matters if you wear a tie. If you are between sizes, size up and let us take the body in — a shirt that fits at the neck and shoulder and is adjusted through the waist will always look better than one bought a size down and pulling at the placket.
Altered in-house, by our own tailors
Every garment bought at Sellers can be altered in-house before you take it home. We keep a full bespoke workshop on the premises — the same master tailors who cut our made-to-measure suits will shorten a sleeve, take in a waist, taper a leg or adjust a shoulder. Most alterations are done the same week; simple hemming is often done while you wait.
This is the practical difference between buying a shirt at Sellers and buying the same shirt anywhere else in Chennai. A ready-made garment is cut for an average body. Yours is not average. The alteration is what closes that gap, and it is included in the way we work rather than treated as an afterthought.
Where to find it
You will find the full range at 3 Sardar Patel Road, Adyar — a few minutes from Adyar Signal, with our own bespoke workshop on the premises. Stock moves quickly across sizes and seasons, so if you are looking for something specific it is worth calling ahead on +91 91761 22221 and we will keep it aside.
