There is no fabric better suited to Chennai than linen, and Linen Club remains the most reliable source of it in India. We stock it as finished shirts and trousers on the ready-made floor, and as fabric on the bolt for customers who would rather have it made up to their own measurements.
What we stock
Ready-made linen and linen-blend shirts in the natural, white, ecru and pastel range; linen trousers; and Linen Club fabric by the metre for bespoke commissions in our own workshop.
The blends deserve a fair word. Pure linen creases — that is its nature and, to most eyes, its charm. A linen-cotton blend creases less and is the more practical choice for a long working day if the wrinkling bothers you.
Living with linen
Linen softens and improves with washing, so do not be alarmed if a new shirt feels crisper than expected. Wash cool, dry in shade, and press while very slightly damp for the cleanest finish.
Linen shirts should be cut with a little more ease than a cotton dress shirt — the fabric does not stretch and a tight linen shirt will pull at the buttons and crease hard across the chest. If you are between sizes, take the larger and let us shape the body.
Altered in-house, by our own tailors
Every garment bought at Sellers can be altered in-house before you take it home. We keep a full bespoke workshop on the premises — the same master tailors who cut our made-to-measure suits will shorten a sleeve, take in a waist, taper a leg or adjust a shoulder. Most alterations are done the same week; simple hemming is often done while you wait.
This is the practical difference between buying a shirt at Sellers and buying the same shirt anywhere else in Chennai. A ready-made garment is cut for an average body. Yours is not average. The alteration is what closes that gap, and it is included in the way we work rather than treated as an afterthought.
