Almost every Indian man over forty knows the Grasim name from suiting, and for good reason. It is among the largest makers of poly-viscose and poly-wool suiting in the country, sold under the Grasim and Graviera names here and in some twenty-five countries beyond. If you have owned an Indian suit, there is a fair chance it started life as a length of this.
Grasim and Graviera
Two names travel together here. Grasim is the better known, and Graviera sits alongside it across the same kind of poly-viscose and poly-wool suiting. Between them they cover an enormous amount of ground in the Indian market and a good deal of ground outside it.
What you are buying is scale done properly. When a mill makes suiting in these quantities the colour and the handle stay the same from one length to the next, and for anyone ordering several suits or a set of uniforms that consistency is the whole game.
Poly-viscose, honestly described
This is poly-viscose and poly-wool suiting, not pure wool, and we will not dress that up. What PV does well is hold a press, resist creasing, dry quickly and survive daily wear at a price that lets a man own three suits instead of one. In a hot and humid city where a suit gets punished, those are real virtues.
What it does not do is drape or breathe like a good worsted, and it will not age the way wool ages. If the suit matters, we will say so and point you elsewhere.
