Digjam is a genuine Indian worsted mill, which is a smaller category than most people assume. It grew out of Shree Digvijaya Woollen Mills at Jamnagar in Gujarat and has spent its life making wool and wool-blend suiting rather than chasing the synthetic end of the market. For a customer who wants Indian-woven wool, Digjam and OCM are the two names we reach for first.
Jamnagar, and the Digvijaya mills
The company began as Shree Digvijaya Woollen Mills at Jamnagar, and the shortened name it trades under today is simply a contraction of it. It has been a wool mill throughout, running worsted suiting and jacketing, and it modernised its weaving through the 1980s when shuttleless looms were installed across the operation.
What matters on the shelf is that the cloth is wool and it is woven in India, which is a shorter list of mills than most people assume.
Worsteds and tweeds
Digjam's useful range for us is worsted suiting in the mid and lighter weights, plus jacketing with more texture in it. Anything at the heavier tweed end we would only recommend for travel.
The character of the cloth is honest rather than refined. It presses well, it holds a line, and it does not pretend to be Italian.
