Birla Century is the most modern mill on this page and it belongs to one of the oldest companies on it. Century Textiles and Industries was incorporated in Mumbai in 1897. Birla Century, the textile operation at Jhagadia in Bharuch district, Gujarat, was built from scratch in 2009 across a hundred acres with a substantial capital investment, specifically to make premium suiting, shirting and fine fabric. New machinery, old company.
An old company and a new mill
Century Textiles and Industries dates from 1897. Birla Century is the part of it that concerns a tailor: a mill built at Jhagadia in 2009, on around a hundred acres, with modern weaving and finishing plant.
Building a mill new rather than upgrading an old one is an advantage in fine cloth. The tolerances that a fine shirting demands are easier to hold on machinery designed for them.
Fine shirting and premium suiting
The output covers premium suiting, shirting, fine fabrics and household linen. The shirting is where we look first, and it holds up well against imported cloth at a similar count.
For Chennai the finer cotton shirtings are the sensible part of the book. We will put one next to a Thomas Mason or an Arvind voile and let you decide by hand.
When we open Birla Century
For fine cotton shirting made in India, and for the customer who wants to know the cloth came off modern plant rather than aging looms.
Birla Century cloth is available to order through us.
